BEING BENIGN

This is a 10 minute radio documentary I made on the effects that benign brain tumours can have on people despite not being cancerous. This documentary aims to raise awareness and inform people about benign brain tumours. It was created for my final major project and has been published on the Brain Tumour Charity website

The first episode called "The Size of A Golfball" goes over my story, but we also hear from a mother whose daughter is suffering from a benign tumour called a craniopharyngioma and from Professor Denise Sheer, one of the leading researchers at the Everest Centre, where special research is taking place to help with benign brain tumour treatments.

The second episode , "Aren't You Lucky!" focuses on three case studies of people who have all been affected by benign brain tumours. The first one is with a student from Sheffield Hallam University who talks about their struggles with an epidermoid; the second interview is with comedian Miles Jupp, who talks about his tumour experience and how he turned it into a comedy show. The third interview is with a mother who wrote a death letter to her family due to her fear of brain surgery.

PODCASTING & INTERVIEWS

This is a podcast I helped create. It is about well Back to the Future 2 predicted the future. Each episode features on a different prediction. The first episode is about whether the flying car will ever become a normal way of transport. The podcast was put forward by the lectures for the Broadcast Journalism Training Council (BJTC) awards. I contributed by presenting, writing the script , editing the podcast and interviewing co-creator of the Back to the Future franchise Bob Gale.

I interviewed the comedian and actor Miles Jupp at the Lowry theatre in Salford just before he performed his comedy show called On I Bang. The interview was for my major project on benign brain tumours so the interview is about Miles reflecting on his experience with a benign brain tumour. I contacted and set up the interview on my own accord.
